What do you wish you knew before you got divorced?

What’s Up with Wendy

What do you wish you knew before you got divorced? Dr. Amelia Kelley is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, owner of Kelley Counseling and Wellness, and author of What I Wish I Knew, a book about surviving and thriving after an abusive relationship. In this episode, we talked about her experience when her parents divorced when she was in college—how she felt, what she learned, how it affected her. She shared how one of her parents leaned on her too much and how she learned to set boundaries, and how happy her parents are now and how they’re thriving after their divorce. Dr. Kelley talked about her husband, and how she handled him being separated when they first met. She told me what it was like being in a relationship with someone who was not yet divorced, and about her happy, 13-year marriage. Dr. Kelley talked about what she learned from her parents’ divorce. And we talked about what gaslighting means, how to recognize it and how to manage it.
